Mofak
Based in Marseille, Mofak has been developing since the 2010s a project at the crossroads of funk, West Coast hip‑hop and G‑funk sounds, with the talkbox playing a central role — an instrument inherited from P‑Funk and later widely associated with Californian rap. A producer, singer and composer, Mofak situates his music within a flexible, melodic street‑funk aesthetic built on rounded basslines, funk synths and rhythms borrowed equally from boogie and West Coast rap. He has progressively connected with the Californian funk and lowrider scene, notably through collaborations with Dezzy Hollow and ties to the Funk Freaks collective of Santa Ana, while remaining rooted in the Marseille landscape, where his name also circulated in the entourage of IAM. His discography notably includes Drunk Of Funk (2018), Funk Fries (2023) and Street Funk (2024). Between an 1980s inheritance and a contemporary rereading of the West‑American groove, Mofak brings funk culture, rap and independent production into dialogue in a highly distinctive format.
