Use Knife

Based in Belgium, Use Knife develops an electronic project where sharp rhythms, industrial textures and vocal lines inspired by Middle Eastern traditions intersect. Born in the late 2010s among musicians from the local indie scene—connected in particular to the group Kiss The Anus of a Black Cat—Use Knife first took shape on stage before consolidating into a trio focused on live performance. The music relies on structures close to pop and club music but treats sound with an experimental approach: often brisk tempos, repetitive motifs and vocals mostly in Arabic that introduce a strong melodic and narrative dimension. From this foundation, the group multiplied concerts in venues and festivals dedicated to adventurous music, while releasing several recordings on independent labels from the late 2010s onward, including singles, EPs and full-length formats. Over the course of these releases, Use Knife refined a hybrid terrain between dark electronic music, noise influences, fragments of Middle Eastern popular music and a stage approach oriented toward physical energy and live sound work.
