Isis Salam
Born in Nigeria, having spent time in Toronto and later settling in Berlin, Isis Salam develops a path at the crossroads of rap, singing, production and DJing. She first appears as one of the two halves of Thunderheist, an electro-rap duo formed in Toronto in the late 2000s, whose energy blends hip-hop, bass music, house and club electronics, with a self-titled album released in 2009. After this initial visibility on independent stages and in festival circuits, Isis Salam pursues solo work that is more mobile, between deep house, electronic textures, spoken word, singing and flows inherited from rap. Her discography, documented notably by several EPs and singles published in the 2010s, shows her active in a club register that leaves room for writing, groove and bass, not limited to a single format. Isis Salam thus moves between live performance and DJ sets, in a hybrid aesthetic where dance culture, hip-hop heritage and a strongly present vocal approach coexist. This trajectory built between North America and Berlin places Isis Salam in a transnational landscape, nourished by electronic and urban scenes.
