LUIZA
Between Rennes and Brazil, Luiza Fernandes Viana formed an early, direct relationship with music, born to a Brazilian mother who is a contemporary dancer and a French father who is a jazz double bassist. Enrolled at the Rennes Conservatory from childhood in a specialized class for classical singing, she received solid vocal and theoretical training, which she complemented by practicing the harp, piano, and guitar. Extended stays in Brazil, notably in the Amazon, then fueled her interest in popular repertoires and Afro-Latin rhythms. At 18, a stint on Réunion Island and at the School of Fine Arts, where she studied documentary photography, marked her first steps on stage, culminating in an impromptu appearance during an Emir Kusturica concert that led her to meet her first booking agent and producer. Based in Paris, the Franco-Brazilian singer steers her work toward a synthesis of Brazilian music, cumbia, Latin pop, dub, and electronic music, with particular attention to vocal harmonies. This approach is reflected in her collaborations with electronic producer Fakear on “Rituals,” with the dub duo Mahom around a cover of “Le temps de l’amour,” then with Khoe-Wa, and on “Sua Pele” alongside iZem and Brazilian singer Flavia Coelho. In parallel, Luiza is developing a personal repertoire, expanded by solo projects and songs co-written with the duo Bleu Soleil, which she performs on stage in concert halls and at festivals.
