the cabs

Formed in Saitama Prefecture, the cabs came together in 2006 around Yoshikatsu Shuto, Kunimitsu Takahashi and Itta Nakamura in a trio format where bass, guitar, vocals and drums interlock in tense, mobile songwriting. the cabs operate at the crossroads of alternative rock, indie rock, emo, post‑rock, math rock and post‑hardcore, with tracks marked by changes of time signature, contrasts between fragile melodies and harsher outbursts, and a taste for winding song structures. After several demos, the band released the mini‑albums 一番はじめの出来事 and 回帰する呼吸 in 2011 on Zankyo Records, before the album 再生の風景 in 2013, which synthesizes the tension between rhythmic precision, urgency and melodic clarity. Active on the Japanese indie scene in the early 2010s, they crossed paths with groups such as きのこ帝国, indigo la End and Wienners. the cabs' trajectory was interrupted in 2013 by the group's split; its members later pursued other projects, notably Yoshikatsu Shuto with KEYTALK and Kunimitsu Takahashi under the name österreich, before the cabs announced their reformation in 2025.
