Bradford Cox
Born in Georgia, Bradford Cox has since the early 2000s developed a trajectory between indie rock, noise, experimental pop and more ambient forms. He founded Deerhunter in 2001, a band of which he is the singer and guitarist, initially in a very abrasive and improvised vein before moving toward more structured songs where hazy melodies, distorted guitars, repetitive textures and oblique writing intersect. With Deerhunter, Bradford Cox has contributed to a sequence of albums marking this evolution, from Cryptograms (2007) to Halcyon Digest (2010), then Monomania (2013), Fading Frontier (2015) and Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared? (2019). In parallel, Bradford Cox leads his solo project Atlas Sound, more introspective and fluid, where spectral folk, minimalist electronics, dream pop and sonic collages mingle. Under this name, he releases Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot Feel (2008), Logos (2009) and Parallax (2011), with occasional collaborations, notably Laetitia Sadier and Noah Lennox. His career also includes film work, a collaboration with Cate Le Bon on the EP Myths 004 in 2019, and rarer appearances in recent years, after a period of relative withdrawal from Deerhunter.
