Failure
Formed in Los Angeles in 1990 around Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards and soon established as a trio with drummer Kellii Scott, Failure emerged on the American alternative scene with a dense, melodic rock that combined saturated guitars, a prominent bass, vocal harmonies and atmospheres drawn from space rock, post-grunge and shoegaze. Failure first released Comfort in 1992, a debut produced by Steve Albini and still marked by abrasive tension, before broadening their approach on Magnified (1994), where the songwriting gained scope and depth. With Fantastic Planet (1996) Failure developed a larger, more nuanced sound, blending heaviness, a sense of weightlessness and more elaborate structures. The band split in 1997 but resumed activity from 2013. The reunion opened a new recording period with The Heart Is a Monster (2015), In the Future Your Body Will Be the Furthest Thing from Your Mind (2018) and Wild Type Droid (2021). In studio and on stage, Failure remains committed to a precise aesthetic built around the interplay between Andrews and Edwards, often slow or taut rhythms, and a constant balance between rock impact and suspended atmospheres.
