Raghu Dixit

Born in Nashik, Maharashtra and raised in Mysore, Raghu Dixit has since the mid-2000s developed a repertoire situated between Indian folk, folk-rock and acoustic pop, with a marked anchoring in the languages of South India, particularly Kannada. At the helm of the Raghu Dixit Project, a formation started in Bengaluru, he assembles vernacular chants, melodies drawn from popular traditions and arrangements open to international influences, in a band format that has circulated on Indian independent stages as well as at several festivals in the United Kingdom and Europe, including an appearance on Later... with Jools Holland in 2010 and at the Glastonbury Festival. His first album, Raghu Dixit, was released in India in 2008 and internationally in 2010, followed by Jag Changa in 2013 and Shakkar in 2024. Alongside his concerts, Raghu Dixit maintains a regular career as a composer and singer for cinema, initially in Kannada with Psycho in 2008 and Just Math Mathalli in 2010, then in productions in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu. This dual trajectory, between live stage and film music, has shaped a direct, melodic and rhythmic writing, where acoustic guitar, collective refrains and motifs inspired by regional folklore occupy a central place.
