Grégoire Jokic

Having studied at the Conservatory, Grégoire Jokic develops a solo project that sits between contemporary piano and melodic electronics, with a precise focus on textures, space and the progression of the pieces. Before committing to this direction, he played in rock and jazz bands, a background that still feeds the rhythmic flexibility and organic quality of his writing. Discovering the music of Jon Hopkins and Max Cooper marked a turning point and led him to build a personal language in which the piano occupies a central place, sometimes exposed, sometimes blended into a more atmospheric sound mass. His music moves between clear melodic lines, gentle electronics, restrained tension and an occasionally melancholic tone. Jokic has also broadened this framework by incorporating vocals into some compositions, using his own voice and through occasional collaborations such as with Nina Versyp or Heroe. On stage, this repertoire continues the dialogue between piano playing and electronic composition in a spare, direct form.
