Hardway Bros

Under the name Hardway Bros, Sean Johnston has developed in London a project positioned between leftfield disco, house, techno and the re‑edit culture, with a marked taste for measured tempos, dark atmospheres and intersections between Balearic, post‑punk and club electronic music. Active as a DJ since his early days in the north of England, Johnston later became part of the London scene, playing at venues and nights such as The Promised Land, Sabre Sonic, Club UK, Final Frontier and Disco Bloodbath, before becoming one of the first residents at Cable. Hardway Bros also refers to his production work with Jake Davies, sometimes joined by Rico depending on the project, with releases on Sabres of Paradise, Third Mind, Flashcomm, Beard Science, Pointless Edits, Aniligital, History Clock, Astrolab and Luna Flicks. In parallel, Johnston co‑founded the night A Love From Outer Space with Andrew Weatherall; its slow, open line permanently linked the Hardway Bros name to a transversal approach that mixes ambient, dub, krautrock, proto‑house and off‑centre disco. Hardway Bros thus appears as a coherent continuation of Sean Johnston’s trajectory across DJ sets, edits and club productions.
