Joe & The Shitboys

From the Faroe Islands, Joe & The Shitboys circulate a short, frank, dark-humored hardcore punk, conceived from the start as a response to the conservative reflexes of their local environment. The band, led by Joe alongside Ziggy Shit and Johnny Shit, is rooted in a queer, vegan aesthetics and gladly sarcastic, with very short tracks that rarely exceed a minute and a half and go straight to the slogan without losing rhythmic punch. Joe & The Shitboys has made themselves known on stage as much in atypical DIY venues as in festivals, betting on a dry energy, fast tempos and lyrics that target homophobia, misogyny, virilism and other forms of ordinary stupidity. Their repertoire includes notably the titles “Drugs R 4 Kidz”, “Life Is Great You Suck”, “Save the Planet You Dumb Shit” and “If You Believe in Eating Meat, Start with Your Dog”, which nicely summarize their way of combining provocation, satire and punk immediacy. Joe & The Shitboys thus develop a direct, minimalist and biting formula, at the crossroads of hardcore, garage punk and satirical punk.
