Phil Fearon

Born in Jamaica in 1956 and settled in London during childhood, Phil Fearon became part of the British black music scene in the early 1980s at the crossroads of R&B, funk, post‑disco and club‑oriented pop‑soul. Before stepping forward as a frontman, he honed his skills in a reggae sound system, played with Hott Wax and then Kandidate, and developed production work that led to Galaxy, a studio project he ran and fronted vocally, notably accompanied by backing singers Julie Gore and Dorothy Galdes. As Phil Fearon and Galaxy he released several singles that circulated widely on the UK soul and dance scene, including "Dancing Tight", "What Do I Do?" and "Everybody’s Laughing". This period resulted in two albums, Phil Fearon and Galaxy (1984) and This Kind of Love (1985), featuring a clean, melodic sound between synth‑funk, boogie and dance pop. In 1986 he continued as a solo artist with "I Can Prove It" and worked with Stock Aitken Waterman, before founding the label Production House Records in 1987. Returning to the scene in the 2010s, Phil Fearon has continued to appear at soul and 1980s events in the United Kingdom.
