Cockney Rejects
Born in London’s East End, Cockney Rejects formed in 1978 in the wake of the most confrontational British punk, with a dry, fast sound rooted in a street imagery tied to London’s working‑class daily life. Centered on Jeff Geggus on vocals and Mick Geggus on guitar, the band contributed to the emergence of the Oi! scene, a term often associated with their 1980 track “Oi, Oi, Oi.” Cockney Rejects built a repertoire focused on the city, football, clashes and social tensions, with direct choruses and no‑nonsense songwriting. After the EP Flares & Slippers in 1979, Cockney Rejects released Greatest Hits Vol. 1 and Greatest Hits Vol. II in 1980, followed by The Power and the Glory in 1981. Their later work moved toward a harder rock register on The Wild Ones (1982), Quiet Storm (1984) and Lethal (1990). Closely linked to West Ham United, they also recorded “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles,” a cover associated with the London club. After several breakups and reformations, the band resumed sustained activity from 1999 and added Out of the Gutter (2002), Unforgiven (2007), East End Babylon (2012) and Power Grab (2022) to their discography.
