Danny Rampling

Born in Streatham, south London, Danny Rampling emerged in the late 1980s on the British club music scene after initially mixing hip‑hop, soul and funk in London bars and clubs. A 1987 stay in Ibiza, where he experienced Alfredo’s eclectic sets at the Amnesia, was a decisive turning point that steered Rampling toward house, acid house and the balearic beat aesthetic. Back in London he and Jenni Rampling launched the Shoom parties, first at Southwark, a club often cited as one of the starting points of UK rave culture. Danny Rampling went on to work as a DJ and producer while maintaining a significant presence on radio, first on the pirate station Kiss and then on BBC Radio 1, where he hosted Love Groove Dance Party from 1994 to 2002. Over the 1990s his sets broadened to include house, garage and more trance‑oriented sounds, sometimes described by him as having a 'Euro' leaning. Rampling also took a break from music in the mid‑2000s before returning to more regular DJing, a career that remains intertwined with the history of London nightlife and the rise of British club culture.
