PiNKII
Active on the online kawaii rap and hyperpop scene since the mid-2010s, PiNKII has developed a project that draws heavily on anime aesthetics, otaku culture and alternative English-language hip‑hop. The artist first emerged through tracks released on streaming platforms and social networks, building a tightly coded visual universe around PiNKII — between “magical girl” imagery, video game references and the subversion of cute symbols toward a darker register. Musically, PiNKII moves between high-pitched rap and pop singing over instrumentals that mix trap, bass music, melodic EDM and sonorities close to J‑pop, with a marked taste for contrasts between sugary choruses and aggressive rhythms. PiNKII’s lyrics address identity, sexuality, self-staging and the obsessions of internet culture, often playing on the gap between affected naivety and gore or occult imagery. Over the years the PiNKII project has solidified through a string of singles and online collaborations, as well as appearances on stages linked to pop and alternative cultures, connecting the artist to an international network of creators operating at the border between club music, digital rap and virtual pop.
