Julián Mayorga
Born in Tolima, Colombia, Julián Mayorga has, since the 2010s, been developing a musical universe at the crossroads of experimental song, post‑cumbia, lo‑fi psychedelia and an often jagged rock. His music combines angular guitars, repurposed percussion, crisp electronic rhythms and a rapid vocal flow in often short, dense pieces marked by the absurd. His discography includes at least nine albums, evidence of steady work carried out on the margins of conventional pop formats. Mayorga’s songs blend satirical humor, surreal narratives and social observation with a sensitive grounding in Colombian landscapes, notably where rural memory intersects with popular urban life. His trajectory is rooted in independent and experimental scenes; his use of sound collage and rhythmic rupture can, in some respects, evoke Tom Zé, Tom Waits or Captain Beefheart, while remaining deeply connected to Latin American traditions and cultural frictions.
