Yumi Ito
Born in Switzerland into a Polish-Japanese family background, Yumi Ito develops a path at the crossroads of contemporary jazz, art pop, vocal improvisation and writing with neoclassical accents. Singer, pianist and composer, Yumi Ito builds a music that blends open forms, acoustic textures and precise work on the voice, often used as sound material as much as a melodic vehicle. Active as a solo artist as well as with her group, she is part of a European scene where authorial jazz, experimental music and songwriting meet. Her discography notably includes Stardust Crystals (2013), Dirty in Mind (2017), Freedom (2018), Lonely Island (2020) and Ysla (2023). On stage, Yumi Ito has performed in varied contexts, from the Montreux Jazz Festival to New York's Blue Note, and has also toured in Europe, Japan and Latin America. Surrounding herself with musicians like Iago Fernández, Nadav Erlich or Alessio Cazzetta depending on the project, Yumi Ito develops a personal universe where improvisation, restrained lyricism and the search for flexible forms between song, jazz and chamber music coexist.
