Harry Mack
Born in Portland, Oregon, in 1990, Harry Mack first studied violin and then drums before developing a strong affinity for improvisation, which he pursued further in California at the USC Thornton School of Music, where he studied jazz. This background informs the shape of his music: improvised rap nourished by boom bap, jazz rap and hip‑hop aesthetics from the 1990s, with a very flexible sense of rhythm and writing constructed in real time from words suggested by the audience. After beginnings with the group State of Mind, Harry Mack gained wider recognition in 2017 thanks to his filmed public sessions in Los Angeles, notably at Venice Beach, and to a series of freestyles broadcast on Power 106 alongside Joey Bada$$, Kendrick Lamar, Casey Veggies and Macklemore. He subsequently developed a substantial online presence with the Guerrilla Bars format, filmed on the street, and Omegle Bars, focused on remote exchange, while increasing radio appearances, livestreams and occasional collaborations, notably with Marc Rebillet. In terms of discography, Harry Mack released the album Contents Under Pressure in 2019, followed by the EPs Rap Coltrane (2021), Soulilloquies (2022) and The Process (2024).
