Grace Petrie

Born in 1987 in Leicester, England, Grace Petrie has developed since the mid-2000s a songwriting approach that sits between British folk, acoustic song and the protest song, with voice, guitar and storytelling at its centre. She began performing solo in 2006 and initially released the albums Grace Petrie (2006) and Feel Better (2007), before steering her repertoire towards lyrics more directly tied to social, political and queer issues in the early 2010s. This orientation is evident on Tell Me a Story (2010) and Mark My Words (2011), and on Love Is My Rebellion (2013), recorded with The Benefits Culture, a line-up that occasionally broadened her folk framework into a more collective accompaniment. Present on the activist scene and across the British festival circuit, Grace Petrie plays Glastonbury regularly, notably on the Leftfield Stage, and tours alongside artists such as Billy Bragg and Emmy the Great, while also making frequent radio appearances and performing in formats that mix music and humour. Her discography also includes Whatever's Left (2015), Heart First Aid Kit (2017), Queer as Folk (2018), Connectivity (2021) and Build Something Better (2024).
