Oilly Wallace

Born in 1996 in Denmark, Oilly Wallace has established himself very early on the Danish jazz scene as an alto saxophonist, with a playing style rooted in bebop and hard bop, nourished by the heritage of Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderley and Dexter Gordon. Oilly Wallace appeared as early as 2014 on Snorre Kirk's Europa, the first discographic landmark that placed him alongside already established musicians, before publishing the EP Fiol Sessions in 2015. His career then develops between leader projects and collaborations, notably with guitarist Johannes Wamberg on Easy Living in 2016 and then Mosaïque in 2020, in an acoustic register attached to swing, with the clarity of melodic lines and the interaction of a small ensemble. Oilly Wallace has also played with several figures of Danish jazz, among them Carsten Dahl, Thomas Blachman, Lennart Ginman, Jan Harbeck, Christina von Bülow and Ben Besiakov. His discography also includes Live from Njord Distillery in 2019 and Flowers Of Your Youth in 2023. Through these projects, Oilly Wallace circulates a language of classic jazz within a contemporary frame, with flexible phrasing, a taste for standards as well as for original compositions, and a regular presence on Danish jazz stages and festivals.
