Château Flight
Château Flight brings together two figures from the Paris electronic scene: Gilbert “Gilb’R” Cohen and Nicolas “I:Cube” Chaix, who linked up in the mid-1990s around the Versatile label. Gilb’R, a programmer at Radio Nova, received an I:Cube demo cassette and signed him to the young label, and Château Flight first took shape through a series of remixes, notably for Pierre Henry and Air. The duo gradually developed a hybrid aesthetic that moves between house, techno, broken beat and electronica, drawing on disco, funk and film music and placing particular emphasis on textures and atmospheres. A maxi such as “Disco Cubizm” in 1996, and the remix by Daft Punk, positioned Château Flight within the so-called French touch wave that was then gaining international visibility. Their first joint album, “Puzzle,” was released on Versatile in 2001, followed by the remix compilation “Remixent” in 2002 and “The Meal” in 2004, marked by numerous collaborations and an opening toward vocals and influences from world music. In 2006 Château Flight also released “Les Vampires,” an electronic reinterpretation of Louis Feuillade’s silent serial. Alongside the albums, a series of EPs punctuate Château Flight’s trajectory — from “Discobole” to “Celestial Showers,” “Chichi Devils” and “Dam House” (2018) — alternating between club formats and more atmospheric explorations. The duo has occasionally collaborated with the French hip-hop scene, notably La Caution on the album “Crash Test,” and performed in clubs and festivals across Europe, the Americas and Asia, before taking a break from 2013 and later resuming activity under the name Château Flight.
