The Prize
Born in Melbourne and active since 2021, The Prize brings together Nadine Muller, Carey Paterson, Joseph Imfeld, Austin Haire, and Ethan Stahl around an edgy rock that blends power pop, rock and roll, melodic punk, and touches of new wave. The band has built a relatively clear identity, driven by three guitars, a direct rhythm section, and a vocal sharing between Nadine Muller and Carey Paterson, which gives the songs a balance between upfront energy, catchy choruses, and guitar counterpoint. In Melbourne's rock scene, The Prize quickly made a name onstage, notably as the opening act for bands such as Pavement, Sunnyboys, The Stems, or Guitar Wolf. The band also toured Europe and the United Kingdom in 2024 alongside King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Murlocs, then The Chats, which broadened its exposure outside Australia. After several singles and a first short-format release, The Prize released the album In The Red in 2025 on Anti Fade Records in Australia and Goner Records in the United States. On this record as on its recent tracks, The Prize develops a compact and melodic sound, rooted in a traditional rock tradition but played with a tension and concision that are very current.
