Flash Pig

Based in Paris since the early 2010s, Flash Pig brings together four musicians from the French jazz scene who also participate in numerous projects as sidemen. As a quartet, Flash Pig explores contemporary jazz that blends direct improvisation, often introspective original compositions, and reinterpretations of pop songs developed through collective writing. Their aesthetic moves between the energy of free jazz, the lyricism of modern jazz and a taste for open forms, striking a balance that leaves ample room for group listening and interplay. Over the course of their career, Flash Pig has performed on stages and at festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz in Marciac and Jazz à la Villette — landmarks that place the group within today’s European jazz circuit. Flash Pig’s professed affinities with musicians like Keith Jarrett, Ornette Coleman and Paul Motian illuminate music that is both structured and fluid, where the work of arranging remains closely tied to the momentum of improvisation.
