Anestesia

Born in Zarautz, in the Basque Country, Anestesia took shape in 1988 in a style between crossover thrash, hardcore punk and metal, with a direct, fast and tense sound. The band started with demos sung in Spanish, then gradually made Basque its main language—a choice already present on the EP Toki Berean (1991) and confirmed on the albums Gorrotoaren Ahotsa (1993), Erantzun (1995), Gu (1997) and Ultra-komunikatzen (2000). The group's trajectory is part of the 1990s Basque alternative scene, notably around the Esan Ozenki label, founded by members of Negu Gorriak—another project involving Mikel Kazalis, Anestesia’s guitarist and vocalist. This parallel activity, along with Kazalis’s involvement in Kuraia, accounts for several long hiatuses without ending the band. Returning with Terapia in 2006 and Zirkulutik Espiralera in 2015, Anestesia maintains a compact, abrasive approach in which thrash riffs, hardcore intensity and Basque phrasing combine in a frequently short and confrontational format. Anestesia operates primarily as a live band, marked by the continuity of its local roots and by an evolution that has remained true to its sonic core.
