Andy Kim

Born in Montreal in 1946 under the name Andrew Youakim, Andy Kim emerged at the end of the 1960s in a pop rock and soft rock register marked by the Brill Building's melodic writing and the era's New York production. Based in the United States, he works closely with producer and songwriter Jeff Barry, with whom he co-writes several titles, including 'Sugar, Sugar', popularized by the Archies in 1969. In parallel, Andy Kim develops his solo career with a series of singles that range between orchestral pop, folk pop and light rock, including 'Baby, I Love You' (1969), 'Be My Baby' (1970) and 'Rock Me Gently' (1974), the latter accompanying the album Rock Me Gently released that same year. After this first highly visible period, Andy Kim partly withdraws from the industry before reappearing under the name Baron Longfellow in the 1980s, with a more AOR and pop rock orientation. Returning then to his birth name, Andy Kim resumes writing and recording with a more stripped-down approach, between pop song, folk and restrained arrangements, notably on 'It’s Decided' (2005). A lasting figure on the Canadian scene, Andy Kim also launched in Toronto the charitable concert Andy Kim Christmas, which has since brought together musicians from several generations since the 2000s.
