Peter Bruntnell

Born in Wellington, New Zealand, in 1962 and settled at a young age in England near Kingston upon Thames, Peter Bruntnell has developed since the mid-1990s a distinctive career between alt-country, country rock, indie folk and melodic rock. After a stint with Milkwood upon his return to the UK, Bruntnell moved toward a more personal format, initially under the name The Peter Bruntnell Combination, with a debut album, Cannibal, released in 1995, followed by Camelot in Smithereens in 1997. His songwriting, nourished as much by Americana as by a drier, more narrative British sensibility, gained new scope with Normal for Bridgwater in 1999 and Ends of the Earth in 2002. Over the years he has alternated group records and more stripped-down recordings, with arrangements that sometimes introduce psychedelic or pop hues without abandoning a folk-rock backbone. Longstanding ties to the American Americana scene, notably around Son Volt, have accompanied this evolution. His discography continued with Ghost in a Spitfire (2005), Peter and the Murder of Crows (2008), Nos Da Comrade (2016), King of Madrid (2019), Journey to the Sun (2021) and Houdini and the Sucker Punch (2024).
