Limblifter

Founded in Vancouver, Canada, in the mid-1990s, Limblifter emerged as a side project by brothers Ryan and Kurt Dahle, already active in the rock band The Age of Electric. Initially focused on taut, melodic power pop, Limblifter settled into the Canadian alternative rock landscape, with songwriting driven by clean guitars, hooky choruses, and a marked sense of concision. The self-titled debut Limblifter arrived in 1996, followed by Bellaclava in 2000, where the band opened up its sound to denser textures and a more contrasted approach, alternating between incisive riffs and more atmospheric passages. After Kurt Dahle’s departure, notably due to his involvement with The New Pornographers, Limblifter regrouped around Ryan Dahle, who steered the project toward a flexible, revolving-lineup core, balancing studio work with tours on Canadian rock and indie stages. The 2004 album I/O continued this exploration of alternative rock with more complex arrangements, after which a period of relative quiet preceded a gradual return to the stage. In 2015, Pacific Milk marked a new phase for Limblifter, with a more expansive sound blending ’90s heritage, contemporary indie influences, and subtle psychedelic touches, reaffirming the band as one of Ryan Dahle’s long-running rock projects.
