Alisha

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Alisha, whose real name is Alisha Ann Itkin, emerged on the American dance scene of the 1980s with a repertoire that sat between freestyle, dance-pop, light funk and touches of Italo disco. Trained in singing from an early age, she was a member of the group The Babysitters before recording her first solo tracks with producer Mark S. Berry, an important figure in her early career. Alisha drew attention in New York clubs with 'All Night Passion', then developed that sound on the 1985 album Alisha, which also included 'Too Turned On' and 'Baby Talk'. Her second album, Nightwalkin' (1987), extended this move toward melodic, synth-driven club pop, notably with 'Into My Secret' and 'Do You Dream About Me', a song written by Diane Warren and used in the film Mannequin. Around the turn of the 1990s, Alisha worked with Michael Jay on Bounce Back (1990), an album more firmly rooted in radio-friendly dance-pop. Her later career included the singles 'Wherever the Rhythm Takes Me' in 1996, produced by Chris Barbosa, and 'You Wanna Be a Star (Superstar)' in 1999 with Jellybean Benitez and Soul Solution.
