D/troit
Formed in Copenhagen in 2010, D/troit brings together five Danish musicians who previously played in punk bands: singer Toke Bo Nisted, guitarist Klaus Højbjerg, bassist Jackie Larsen, keyboardist Mads Jensen and drummer Stefan Cannerslund Andersen. D/troit develops a band‑played soul rooted in the Motown legacy and, more broadly, the rhythm and blues of the 1960s and 1970s, featuring brass arrangements, backing vocals, emphatic drumming and guitars with a dry tone. After the EP Do the Right Thing in 2015, released on the Danish independent label Crunchy Frog, D/troit issued Soul Sound System in 2017 as their first full‑length with Gabriel Roth, then toured in Northern Europe and Germany. Heavy, released in 2022, extends that soul‑funk foundation while incorporating some more contemporary elements, including rhythms close to hip‑hop. In 2025 D/troit broadened their scope with Instrumentals Volume 1, an album focused on instrumental compositions with cinematic hues, produced by Mads Brinch Nielsen at Black Tornado Studio in Copenhagen. The lyrics are written in English, and the band’s name explicitly refers to Detroit, a city associated with the history of soul.
