Evgeny Grinko
Born in Zhukovsky, near Moscow, Evgeny Grinko began as a drummer in punk and hardcore bands before shifting his work toward instrumental music centered on the piano and ensemble writing. He developed a language positioned between neoclassical, minimalism and contemporary chamber music, creating short, melodic pieces built on the repetition of simple motifs, gradual variations and spare arrangements for strings, winds and light percussion. This direction became clearer in the early 2010s with Ice for Aureliano Buendia (2011) and continued notably with Naive (2017), where Grinko asserts a more pared-down writing—still without vocals—attentive to silence, slow tempo and changes of texture. His trajectory thus links the Russian independent culture of his beginnings with an acoustic repertoire performed on stages devoted to instrumental music, at the crossroads of contemporary classical, ambient and chamber pop.
