Dreamers' Circus

Based in Copenhagen, the Scandinavian trio Dreamers' Circus brings together Danish violinist Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen, Danish pianist and accordionist Nikolaj Busk, and Swedish cittern player Ale Carr in a practice situated between Nordic traditional music and contemporary chamber writing. Emerging around the turn of the 2010s in the wake of the new Danish folk scene, Dreamers' Circus has developed a repertoire largely made up of original pieces informed by Swedish and Danish melodies, harmonies from the classical tradition, and elements borrowed from jazz and minimalism. The albums A Little Symphony (2013), Second Movement (2015), Rooftop Sessions (2017) and Blue White Gold (2020) chart this evolution, from early acoustic explorations toward more orchestral forms. A regular presence on folk festival stages and in venues devoted to classical music, Dreamers' Circus performs frequently across Europe and North America and occasionally collaborates with chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras, extending in different contexts their approach to Nordic music as a field for composition and reworking rather than mere reproduction of the traditional repertoire.
