Alexis Ffrench

Born in Surrey, England, Alexis Ffrench has since the 2000s developed a piano writing that sits between contemporary classical, neo-classical, soul and R&B, with a direct melodic language and pieces often built on repetitive motifs, warm harmonies and a very singable playing style. Trained at Purcell School and then at the Royal Academy of Music, Ffrench first made himself heard through a string of self-produced or independently released albums, including Piano Diaries 2006, The Secret Piano, Piano Arias, The Singing Planet and Meditations 2009, then Piano Karma 2012, Stolen Lullabies 2013, Escape 2015 and The Piano Whisperer 2016. His visibility broadened later with Bluebird in 2017 and with the albums Evolution 2018, Dreamland 2020, Truth 2022 and Classical Soul Vol. 1 2024, which extend this encounter between European piano tradition and sensibility drawn from Black music of the UK and the US. Composer, producer and performer, Alexis Ffrench has also collaborated with Paloma Faith, scored the music for the film The House Where The Mermaid Sleeps in 2018, and performs both in classical venues and at festivals, while also pursuing a parallel outreach in music education.
