Meimuna
Trained in classical guitar from an early age at the Conservatory, Cyrielle Formaz, a Valais musician based in Switzerland, gradually developed the solo project Meimuna after a path marked by the study of musical language and a departure from the classical repertoire toward songwriting and composition. In 2015 Meimuna took shape when Cyrielle attended the Médaille d’Or workshop in the Jura with Jean Fauque and Jean‑François Delfour, then left the Université de Lausanne where she had been studying art and film history. Later selected for the 42nd Rencontres d’Astaffort with Francis Cabrel and several songwriters, she decided to devote herself fully to Meimuna and disband her former groups. Between intimate folk, French chanson and indie pop, Meimuna’s music rests on a composed voice, narrative songwriting and stripped-down arrangements in which the guitar converses with subtle sonic textures. After two years focused on concerts, guitar teaching, composition workshops and learning sound and mixing, Cyrielle Formaz moved to Brussels to study illustration at the École supérieure des arts de Saint‑Luc while continuing Meimuna on stage, notably alongside musician Erik Bonerfält. Returning to Switzerland after more than two years, she settled back to work exclusively on Meimuna and concurrently developed compositions for theatre, film scores and projects around readings.
