Aryana Sayeed

Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Aryana Sayeed has emerged within the Afghan diaspora as a modern pop singer, blending melodies inspired by traditional Afghan music with R&B and Middle Eastern pop influences. After leaving her country as a child, she settled in Europe and later in the United Kingdom. From the 2010s onward, she released a series of singles and music videos that circulated widely among Afghan communities abroad, in Dari and Pashto, and occasionally in English. Her songwriting addresses romantic relationships, the experience of exile, and the role of women in society, set to productions that combine electronic rhythms, Middle Eastern–tinged arrangements, and accessible pop formats. Alongside her studio and stage work, Aryana Sayeed appeared on Afghan talent and variety television shows—serving as a judge on singing competitions and as a host of music programs—which strengthened her role in the country’s cultural life before she once again moved abroad. Through regional concerts, tours across the diaspora, and collaborations with Afghan musicians based in Europe and North America, Aryana Sayeed has built a career in which Afghan pop draws on global references while remaining closely tied to the language and current affairs of her country of origin.
