Sabbat

Based in Kuwana, Japan, Sabbat took shape in 1983 under the name Evil before adopting their current name in 1984, when bassist Gezol also assumed vocal duties. Sabbat developed an aesthetic that sits between primitive black metal, rough thrash metal and heavy metal heritage, characterized by a raw sound, fast riffs and an approach deeply rooted in the 1980s underground. After several singles and EPs released on the Evil Records label, Sabbat moved to the full-length format with Envenom (1991), followed by Evoke (1992), Disembody (1993) and Fetishism (1994), then continued with The Dwelling (1996), Karisma (1999), Satanasword (2000), Karmagmassacre (2003) and Sabbatrinity (2011). Gezol has remained the core of the group through lineup changes and leads the trio alongside drummer Zorugelion, while Elizabigore occupies guitar in the current lineup. Sabbat’s activity has been built both through live performances and an extensive discography of live albums, splits and reissues, distributed far beyond Japan and also linked to Gezol’s other projects, notably Metalucifer and Barbatos.
