Oslo Gospel Choir

Formed in Oslo in 1988 around choral conductor and composer Tore W. Aas, Oslo Gospel Choir belongs to the Nordic gospel tradition, combining choral harmonies, soul influences and a contemporary pop approach. The choir brings together amateur and semi‑professional singers from various Christian communities in the Norwegian capital and performs in churches, concert halls and gospel festivals. From the late 1980s the Oslo Gospel Choir recorded a series of albums that established its repertoire, notably This Is the Day (1988) and the Christmas record Tusen Julelys (1992), mixing compositions by Tore W. Aas with reworked hymns and spirituals. The ensemble favours a sound marked by clearly structured voice sections, soloists drawn from the choir, and a rhythmic accompaniment close to contemporary pop. Through tours in Scandinavia and across Europe, Oslo Gospel Choir developed a repertoire mainly in Norwegian and English that circulates both within Christian music networks and on the broader choral scene.
