Tchotchke
Tchotchke took shape in Los Angeles around Anastasia Sanchez, Eva Chambers and Emily Tooraen, three musicians who had been involved in several projects before settling into this trio that combines vocals, drums, bass, keyboards and guitar. Initially rooted in the California scene, Tchotchke later moved to the U.S. East Coast, a change of setting that accompanied the recording of their self-titled debut album, Tchotchke, released in 2022 and produced by The Lemon Twigs on Long Island. On the record the band developed a songwriting approach that sits between power pop, melodic rock’n’roll and ’60s pop, characterized by pronounced vocal harmonies, direct choruses and a clear taste for textures derived from girl groups, sunshine pop and a slightly off-kilter but highly structured pop. Following the release, Tchotchke toured the United States and Europe, notably alongside King Tuff, Broncho, The Gossip and The Makeup. The band’s trajectory also shows increasingly precise arranging work, nourished by older pop references without descending into pastiche, and by a way of combining group energy, tight melodies and a deliberately concise approach to songwriting.
