Tequilajazzz
Formed in Saint Petersburg in the early 1990s, Tequilajazzz emerged as part of the wave of independent Russian rock that followed the collapse of the USSR, with a sound close to alternative rock, post‑punk and noisier currents. The band combines pronounced bass lines, taut guitars and vocals often delivered in a spoken‑sung style in Russian, supported by introspective lyrics and a tone that can be social or existential. Tequilajazzz built its reputation on Russia's club and festival circuit, toured widely across the post‑Soviet space and remained associated with Saint Petersburg’s alternative scene. Their discography spans several decades — studio albums, more experimental projects and re‑recordings or acoustic reinterpretations of their own repertoire — reflecting a steady evolution of the band's sound without abrupt breaks from its beginnings. After an initial period of intense activity in the 1990s and 2000s, Tequilajazzz experienced pauses, occasional reunions and anniversary tours, and today serves as a reference for audiences attached to independent Russian rock.
