British Sea Power

Known as British Sea Power until 2021, Sea Power formed in Reading, England around brothers Yan and Hamilton Wilkinson, later joined by guitarist Martin Noble, with strong ties to Brighton and Cumbria where several members grew up. From the start the band developed a blend of indie rock, post‑punk revival and post‑rock, characterised by taut guitars, atmospheric build‑ups and a lasting taste for arrangements that expand the rock format. After The Decline of British Sea Power (2003), British Sea Power refined its writing on Open Season (2005) and Do You Like Rock Music? (2008), before opening its discography more to film and commissioned work with Man of Aran (2009), From the Sea to the Land Beyond (2013), Happiness (2014) and the Disco Elysium soundtrack (2019). The lineup grew over the years with Phil Sumner and Abi Fry, whose keyboards, brass and strings reinforced an identity both expansive and rugged. The band also cultivated a distinctive stage presence, often in atypical venues — from independent rooms and festivals to image‑linked performances. Since the name change to Sea Power, made official with the release of Everything Was Forever (2022), the trajectory of British Sea Power reads as a continuity in which rock energy remains tied to a pronounced sense of landscape, narrative and sonic texture.
