The Kingdom Choir

Based in London, The Kingdom Choir has brought together gospel singers for more than thirty years under the direction of Karen Gibson, a choir director and educator active on the British choral scene. The Kingdom Choir performs a contemporary form of gospel that blends choral fervour, soul and pop covers, with a focus on collective harmonies and restrained interpretation, sometimes a cappella. After more than twenty years of activity, the choir achieved international prominence in 2018 at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, where The Kingdom Choir performed “Stand by Me” in a gospel arrangement. That same year the album Stand by Me (2018) was released, consisting mostly of covers and one original track, “Chases”. Since then The Kingdom Choir has sung ahead of the MLB London Series in 2019, accompanied Marco Mengoni on “Let It Be” at the Sanremo Festival 2023, and several of its members participated in the coronation of Charles III as part of the Ascension Choir. The Kingdom Choir thus remains associated with a British gospel practice that embraces popular standards and major ceremonial occasions.
