AJJ
Formed in Phoenix, Arizona, AJJ first became known from 2004 under the name Andrew Jackson Jihad, around singer-guitarist Sean Bonnette and bassist Ben Gallaty, who remained the two central members of the band over the years. Their music draws on folk-punk and anti-folk, with direct writing, often tense acoustic arrangements, then a gradual opening toward a broader indie rock, filled with experimental touches, keyboards, cello and a more developed rhythm section as a band. After Candy Cigarettes & Cap Guns in 2005, AJJ developed this blend on People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People in the World in 2007, Can't Maintain in 2009 and Knife Man in 2011, before further expanding their range with Christmas Island in 2014, produced by John Congleton. In 2016, the group officially adopted the name AJJ, long used by its audience, at the release of The Bible 2. The rest of their career continues this evolution with Good Luck Everybody in 2020 and Disposable Everything in 2023. Used to punk, DIY and independent circuits in the United States as well as Europe, AJJ has also shared the bill with artists such as Frank Turner, Joyce Manor, Laura Stevenson or Jeff Rosenstock, in a trajectory tied to alternative scenes.
