João Gomes
Born in Serrita in the interior of Pernambuco, Brazil, João Gomes established himself at a very young age in the Brazilian popular scene by circulating his first videos on the Internet from Petrolina, where he grew up in part. His music is rooted in forró and piseiro, with a deep and direct vocal, anchored in the vaquejada universe and songs that connect rhythms from the Northeast, popular romance and touches of MPB. João Gomes emerges nationally in 2021 with Eu Tenho a Senha, followed by Ao Vivo em Fortaleza in the same year, propelled by tracks such as Meu Pedaço de Pecado, Se For Amor and Eu Tenho a Senha. The rest of his career shows a progressive broadening of his repertoire, between original creations, reinterpretations and dialogues with other Brazilian scenes, notably on Digo Ou Não Digo in 2022, RAIZ in 2023, De Norte a Sul in 2023 and Vaquejada Tá Na Moda in 2024. João Gomes also multiplied collaborations with artists such as Tarcísio do Acordeon, Vitor Fernandes, Vanessa da Mata, L7nnon, Mestrinho and Jota.pê, while remaining very present at major popular festivals and outdoor stages in the Northeast. This trajectory, built between viral diffusion, regional circuits and national festivals, sheds light on João Gomes singular place in the renewal of contemporary forró.
