Afterburner

Formed in 1996 in Osterholz-Scharmbeck, near Bremen, Afterburner brings together musicians from the Bremian region around a live rock nourished by Anglo-Saxon classics from the 1960s to the 1990s, reworked in a homogeneous aesthetic, tighter and more direct than that of a simple cover band. The lineup, led by singer Tjalf Hoyer, underwent a lineup change in 2009 with the arrival of Maximilian zur Jacobsmühlen and Felix Weidenhöfer on guitars, followed by Sebastian Ascher on bass in 2018, alongside Wilhelm Kandt on keyboards and Ulrich Wortmann on drums. Afterburner mainly plays in clubs, festivals and urban celebrations, with shared appearances over the years with Status Quo, Uriah Heep, The Hooters, SAGA or Roger Hodgson. The band has also developed a regular discography, between live rock, original compositions and football-related projects, with Burnin’ Alive in 1996, Lesson in Rock in 1997, Rockaholic in 1998, Flammable in 1999, Kakophonia in 2003, Here to Save the Rock in 2012 and Ewergreens in 2012. In the Bremian context, Afterburner holds a special place due to its long-standing connection with SV Werder Bremen, to which it has dedicated several tracks and releases, including Werder Rockt! in 2007 and contributions to Lauter Werder in 2019.
