Born in Daejeon, South Korea, in 1993 and raised in Incheon, BewhY made his mark in the Korean hip-hop landscape in the early 2010s with technical, dense rap often threaded with Christian references. Active since 2012, he first released the mixtape Be the Livest the same year, then developed a writing style marked by rapid flows, changes of cadence and production that blends contemporary hip-hop, gospel accents, funk and dark electronic textures. BewhY significantly broadened his audience in 2016 by winning Show Me the Money 5, after an initial appearance in season 4, which permanently places his name at the center of the Korean scene. A member of the crews $exy $treet and Yello Music, later tied to the Dejavu Group label, he released the albums Time Travel in 2015, The Blind Star in 2017 and The Movie Star in 2019, as well as the EPs The Blind Star 0.5 in 2017, NEO CHRISTIAN in 2020 and 032 Funk in 2021. In this journey, BewhY alternates introspective tracks and more upfront titles, while maintaining a nervous diction and a very precise rhythmic construction. His collaborations with artists like C Jamm, Simon Dominic, Jay Park, Talib Kweli or Big K.R.I.T. also testify to a circulation between the Korean scene and more international exchanges.
