Info
On January 23, 2027, Manchester Academy hosts a double bill built for anyone who likes guitars with bite and melodies that stick.
The Jesus and Mary Chain come in with that signature push-and-pull: tight pop songwriting buried under abrasive distortion, a blueprint that helped shape noise pop and foreshadow shoegaze. Led by brothers Jim and William Reid since the early days in East Kilbride, they’ve kept the core intact across eras, from the feedback-drenched punch of Psychocandy to the leaner, darker mood of Darklands, and later records that stretch the palette without losing the band’s direct, melodic backbone.
The Psychedelic Furs bring their London post-punk roots and a sound that opened up into new wave, alternative rock, and darker pop. With Richard Butler’s husky vocal up front and a mix that’s long blended guitars, bass, keys, and sax, their set is a chance to revisit the band’s run of early-80s classics and the sharper, more melodic writing that made them stand out, alongside their more recent return to studio form.
