On May 8, 2027, at Utilita Arena Birmingham, Simple Minds bring their long arc from Glasgow post-punk to big, synth-driven melodic rock back to the stage. Led by the Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill duo, the show is set to move through the band’s early, more angular new wave years and the era where atmosphere, guitars and shimmering keyboards opened everything up. Expect a set that connects the restless energy of their late-70s beginnings with the wider, arena-ready sound they refined across the 80s and beyond, without losing that dense, propulsive pulse that made their name.
Gary Numan joins the bill with the kind of electronic rock that helped define the UK’s late-70s pivot toward synths. From the sharp, minimal momentum of the Tubeway Army days to the colder, sci-fi edge of his breakthrough era and the darker, more industrial direction he embraced later on, his live sets are built on tension, texture and a heavy sense of atmosphere. A double hit of British classics, seen through two very different futures.
