Friday 21 August 2026, The Trentham Estate in Stoke-on-Trent hosts Madness for Trentham Live. Formed in Camden in 1976, the band grew out of the 2 Tone wave into a sound that threads British ska, rocksteady, pop and new wave. Brass-led arrangements, crisp rhythms and everyday London stories shaped One Step Beyond..., Absolutely, 7 and The Rise & Fall, before a shift toward more melodic pop. After a split in 1986 and a reform in 1992, they kept recording and touring, from Wonderful and The Dangermen Sessions to The Liberty of Norton Folgate, Oui Oui, Si Si, Ja Ja, Da Da, Can’t Touch Us Now and Theatre of the Absurd Presents C’est la Vie. On stage, those hooks and grooves span the catalogue with ease.
Joining them, The Coral bring an indie-psych bent forged on the Wirral since 1996. Their writing blends jangling guitars, folk-psych haze and a Merseybeat lilt, with detours into country touches, baroque pop and lo-fi textures. Early releases The Coral and Magic and Medicine were followed by Nightfreak and the Sons of Becker and The Invisible Invasion, then Roots & Echoes, a pause around Butterfly House, and a return with Distance Inbetween, Move Through the Dawn and the double set Coral Island. In 2023, the band extended that world with Sea of Mirrors and Holy Joe’s Coral Island Medicine Show, material that now sits alongside their early songs in a live set built on bright melodies and a steady pulse.
