Info
On 16 October 2026 at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, two distinct voices of British pop and soul share the bill: Roachford and Hue and Cry.
Led by London-born singer and keyboard player Andrew Roachford since the late 1980s, Roachford blends pop-rock, contemporary R&B and classic soul into direct, groove-led songs built on strong hooks and lean arrangements. From the self-titled debut in 1988 through Get Ready!, Permanent Shade of Blue and Feel, then later albums like Word of Mouth, Encore, Twice in a Lifetime and Then and Now, the project has kept a steady line between rock drive and soul phrasing. On stage, Roachford leans on that mix, carried by Andrew’s voice and keys, and a band shaped for tight, melodic impact. His work with Mike + The Mechanics and sessions with Beverley Knight also feed into this approach.
Formed in Coatbridge by brothers Pat and Greg Kane, Hue and Cry draw on blue-eyed soul, sophisti-pop and a taste for jazz. Early releases Seduced and Abandoned and Remote established their melodic sense, with Labour of Love marking their breakout. The 1990s widened the palette, before more jazz-leaning records like Jazz Not Jazz and Next Move, and later albums up to Hue And Cry 40. On stage, the duo moves with ease between piano-and-voice intimacy and fuller arrangements, bringing sharp songwriting, soulful vocals and subtle harmonic twists.
