On 5 October 2027 at New Theatre Oxford, Wet Wet Wet mark 40 years of their debut, Popped In Souled Out. Formed in Clydebank near Glasgow, the band forged a melodic pop sound fed by soul and string-laced ballads; that first album set the template. The show centres on that record, revisited by today’s line-up — Graeme Clark, Tommy Cunningham, Neil Mitchell and long-time guitarist Graeme Duffin — now fronted by Kevin Simm. Expect a set that threads the early songs with later releases such as The Memphis Sessions, Holding Back the River, Picture This, 10 and The Journey, plus the cover of Love Is All Around heard in Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Support: Rebecca Ferguson. The Liverpool singer moves between soul-pop, R&B, blues and gospel, with a low, flexible tone and uncluttered melodies. From Heaven and Freedom to Superwoman and 2023’s Heaven Part II, she has pursued a clear, personal songwriting path, collaborating along the way with John Legend and Nile Rodgers. An opening set that sets the mood with economy and poise.
