The Beach Boys

The Beach Boys bring six decades of California harmonies to Calgary with a set that moves from surf beginnings to more orchestrated pop. Formed in Hawthorne in 1961 by the Wilson brothers with Mike Love and Al Jardine, the band shaped a sound where doo-wop tinged vocals met rock’n’roll and teenage themes. Those early hits led to Brian Wilson’s meticulous writing and arrangements, crystallized on Pet Sounds and the Smile project, then into more reflective 70s records.

On stage today, the group pulls widely from that catalogue: surf staples, Pet Sounds favorites and 70s deep cuts share the spotlight, carried by tight vocal blends and melodic hooks that define their identity. Through line-up changes, losses and solo paths, the name has stayed active, from archival projects to late studio returns like That’s Why God Made the Radio, all while keeping the touring machine running.
